EPI Optics Modules

EPI modules are designed for applications that require higher wavelength discrimination and/or improved signal-to-noise ratio, including microfluidics and biological applications such as cell imaging and Micro-Particle Image Velocimetry. Epifluorescence capabilities lets researchers visualize and record flows using greater selectivity, limits of detection, and resolution.

Choose from EPI-BLUE and EPI-GREEN modules, suitable for imaging FITC-conjugates and CY-3 conjugates, respectively. Each sealed EPI module is self-contained and includes a high-sensitivity camera, excitation and emission filters, a dichroic mirror, LED illuminator and objective mount. Use the illuminator on its own or in conjunction with the SVM's four-channel ring illuminator for increased intensity.

Camera Modules

The interchangeable camera modules for the SVM340 include a CCD camera, optional fluorescence filter and threading for standard DIN objectives.

Black and White Module High sensitivity analog black & white camera with 640 x 480 pixels, 600 lines of resolution, 30 frames per second.

Color Module Bayer-pattern analog color camera with 640 x 480 pixels, 490 lines of resolution, 30 frames per second, S-Video output.

Illumination Options

The SVM340 illuminator offers four selectable LED channels which can be used independently or simultaneously. You can specify the color for each channel from the following LED wavelengths:

Blue: 464-476 nm
Green
: 520-535 nm
Red
: 615-636 nm
White

Custom wavelengths are also available.

Filter Options

The SVM uses 12.5 mm diameter long pass filters. Filters are available through LabSmith in wavelengths of 515nm, 530nm, 550nm, 570nm, 590nm, 610nm, 630nm and 665nm.

Objective Options

The SVM accepts standard DIN objectives and can accommodate magnifications up to 20X. The following objectives are available trhough LabSmith:

Power Numerical Aperture Working Distance Focal Length Field of View
4X 0.10 15.97 mm 31.0 mm 1.5 x 1.5 mm
10X 0.25 6.3 mm 16.76 mm 0.6 x 0.6 mm
20X 0.40 3.3 mm 8.55 mm 0.3 x 0.3 mm

Stage Plate Options

The standard stainless steel stage plate has a 50 x 75 mm opening for easy sample viewing. An optional plate is available with two openings of 20 x 32 mm and 22 x 66 mm for smaller chips.

Suggested Options for Typical Applications

The SVM340 illuminator and filter options can be configured for particular applications. For example, when working with fluorescein particles the SVM340 illuminator can be equipped with one channel of white LEDs (to view the channels and chip during setup) and three blue LED channels (to excite the fluorescein particles). A 530 nm filter and black & white camera are also suggested.
