LabSmith and Micronit Team up to Manufacture Standardized
Microfluidics
Complete Toolkits for Microfluidics-Based Research
LabSmith, Inc. and Micronit Microfluidics BV have announced that
they have teamed up to offer complete solutions for microfluidics
research. This cooperative effort brings together Micronit’s
lab-on-a-chip expertise with LabSmith’s electronics and fluid
routing products, creating a complete set-up of integrated MEMS
and microfluidics components.
“Highly compatible components are essential for accelerating
the pace of microfluidic research,” said Ronny van ‘t
Oever, CTO of Micronit. “As our microfluidic devices work
effortlessly with LabSmith’s sequencing technology, together
we are leading the way toward standardizing components for use throughout
the industry.”
“LabSmith and Micronit intend to help researchers focus their
efforts on generating science, rather than building test setups,“
said Eric Cummings, President of LabSmith. “A large percentage
of research time is spent piecing together components from multiple
vendors, which by and large adhere to no standards. Our off-the-shelf,
ready-to-use hardware and software products speed system development,
greatly improving the efficiency of laboratories in a wide range
of fields.”
Micronit, based in Enschede, The Netherlands, is an independent
supplier of glass microfluidic devices and interconnections, structured
wafers, and lab-on-chip technologies, offering services from prototype
development to high volume manufacturing. www.micronit.com.
LabSmith, based in Livermore, California, designs and manufactures
microfluidic fluid routing and interconnection components, high
voltage power supply and sequencing products, and video microscopes
for MEMS and microfluidic research. www.labsmith.com.
